Lured to Love the Lake
Although it has always been painfully obvious that there is a Texan Gal deep in my heart, we moved to Carolina when I was merely 9 months old so I became a naturalized "Greenvillian". A soulful adventurer has always been trotting me around the globe and I have spent my life flying around chasing rainbows with my hair whipping around in the wind behind me.
In 2009 I met and married a Naval Surface Warfare Officer stationed at the Pentagon and began the journey of a lifetime in earnest which took me away from my sweet home, but rest assured that EVERY single time I returned to visit my Mama in Greenville the first thing that I would utter breathlessly almost the instant I entered the door was “purple mountain majesty, purple mountain majesty”. She knew EXACTLY where I needed to go and STAT!
MY Lake Lure is pure magic and a peaceful place to relax and JUST BREATHE in the fresh mountain air and have leave the rest of the cares of the world behind. The ride is just the right distance from Greenville proper and the twists and turns are like a tangled gift bow teasing you before opening up to the most majestic lake that is encrusted by a mature canopy of lush forestry and all manner of unique rustic cabins dotted along the craggy coast.
If the drive up leaves you peckish stop off at Larkin’s on the Lake to fuel up with one of their mouthwatering burgers or those belly busting nachos then grab your loved ones and walk it off at the famous romantic “Dirty Dancing” beach or Flowering Bridge by the marina.
I am guessing that you will crave more adventure, so we always continue on up Memorial Highway to Chimney Rock for an ice cream cone perhaps, a peek in the shops filled with mountain curiosities, and a little stroll along the Rock Broad Riverwalk which you access on either side of the Chimney Rock Gemstone Mine to dip our feet in the water and take a ceremonial family picture!
IF you wish to make a whole “special” weekend out of your visit, I HIGHLY recommend The Lodge on Lake Lure! From the beautiful rooms that open to verandas or the breathtaking cascading decks to Chef Ben’s scrumptious dinner creations at Tree Tops Restaurant you will leave wishing you could stay forever. Plan to feel like you have died and gone to bed and breakfast heaven after devouring the eggs benedict and french toast made to order at the Lodge!
Here is to wind in your hair and sun on your face *smiles*
